REALTORS Do Their Best, but Sometimes........

An agent in our office listed a recently flooded home and was himself flooded with seven offers for this $25,000 home. The problem was, the agent could not get hold of the seller despite his very best efforts.
Needless to say, the other agents assumed our agent was purposely putting them off, perhaps to wait until an offer from one of his own buyers came in. Irate calls came in to the agent and the broker.

The truth was.....his emails and repeated voicemails simply went unanswered. Where was the seller? man with a questin mark

It's an awful dilemma to find yourself in. Agents can be cut-throat in a multiple offer situation. Unfortunately, someone is going to lose out and in this case, 6 buyers were going to find themselves very dissappointed.

The agent mentioned the situation to his daughter. It turns out she knew the seller's daughter! She didn't have her phone number but was friends with her on Facebook. Through Facebook, she contacted the daughter who then contacted her father (who lives over an hour away.) Through a series of unfortunate events, father and daughter had ended up with each other's cell phones.......and neither had checked either over the period of a few days!

If you can believe it, even in this day and age of cell phones, some folks don't use them on a daily basis.

The seller made contact with the agent, one of the deals signed and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Except of course, the other six buyers. You can't make this stuff up! Your REALTOR is doing their best. Often they are at the mercy of the other people involved in your transaction-the seller or buyer, the attorneys, the inspectors, the bankers, the other agent. It's not an excuse, it's just the nature of the business.

The moral of the story? Go check your cell phone to make sure it's really yours. Then go check to see if anyone has sent you a message on Facebook. It may be from me!
